New fillament vs old

Hi. This last week just got some new filament from fillamentum... The old stuff is white, new stuff is black. This is the fillamentum place extrafill black.
Still getting used to it. The white stuff is being extruded at 200'C the black at present is set to 190, which is the suggested min, although looks like to me this is still too hot. So will be dropping this down to 185.
Can't wait to get my Christmas present later today of Fillamentum timberfil....

For anyone interested here is the link to the fillament that I just purchased

Christmas present!

I have an idea what my Christmas present is going to be this year - wood filament!!

I now have an idea what one of my first of many prints in wood is going to be...

A wooden Glider!

Corner lift

Grr... How annoying I have tried twice to print the lower z mount for the ormerod (to replace mine, as I have spotted a crack down it)

So anyway each time I try to print I get the corner lifting...as shown

The little splurge is where the nozzle was lifted.

Hopefully will find a solution soon

Success

So Today I made a break through with the printer after spending 1/2hr after work checking all the level of the bed and the z axis arm (turns out z axis arm and support was lose, because the mounting plate has a crack in it .,. Tightened everything up, Leveled and lined everything up and I did it I got some really good prints.

So here is a before print:

This is of the Nozzle mount for the Ormerod,

and this is of the right y axis support that I am trying to print in order to provide a tensioning method for the y axis,

Now here is the print of the nozzle mount after levelling up the z axis

Really chuffed with this... Now to get printing more tomorrow of spares for the Ormerod, and then My first design after the weekend.

EMI issues with y axis microswitch

So first print of a coat hook came out really messy,

Looking this up in the forum suggested that this was EMI noise from the stepper motor affecting the y axis microswitch... The advice was to make sure the wires were separated
However the electronics engineer in me says this wouldn't be good enough. So a ferrite placed on the stepper motor cable at the controller board solved this issue. Its needed on the stepper motor cable as this is what radiates the noise. The ferries job is to suck this noise away and dissipate it as heat 

Here is the result following adding Ferrites

RANT! Why can't people produce apps that work

So this will probably not work,  but for some reason using the blogger app on android with attaching an image doesnt upload. Anyone else had this happen?

welcome

Welcome to my Blog, Hope you like it. I have recently brought a Reprap Ormerod 3D printer and I thought a blog would be a good way to track my progress with getting to grips with the Printer.

I have spent the last couple of years eagerly following 3D printer technology, having attended the TCT show the last two years. Well this year Circumstances have pushed me to expand my horizons and decide to invest in a 3D printer with the notion that this will support me in product design.

Here is the printer - Its the first revision of the Ormerod. I have got a large reel of PLA 1.75mm to get me started.
